Tom Walker has lived all his life miserable and fighting with his wife... you cannot blame the guy for wanting a break and wanting to get some happiness but he just got a little bump in the road while looking for it... and at the end he was truly scared and regretful.

i think tom walker is evil, because he should have know better than to make a treaty with the devil

Cynthia said...

so i disagree with daniela because evenif he lived a miserable life he needed to fin other solutions

Daniela said...

Cynthia he is not guilty!!! things happen in life things that you dont mean them to happen.... he made a mistake and he recognized it

you cant expect him to know everything and be perfect.

Cynthia said...

daniela even if he made a mistake he should have known better even if it was a mistake it a wrong thing to do

I think Tom Walker led a miserable life in which he felt desperate, useless and lacking sense. To want to escape from all that since always and finally founding a way to do it was a relief for him. It may have not been the right way, but for him, it seemed like the light at the end of the tunnel.

I have to disagree with Cynthia because you never know how you will react after being miserable for your whole life and seeing a way out of it.

I disagree with Cynthia.
No one wants to live a miserable life, fighting all the time, and being unhappy. And if you live your life this way, you would want a way out somehow.
So, I understand that Tom Walker may have chosen the wrong decision, but he saw that as a chance to escape making the deal with the devil.
I think Tom Walker is NOT guilty.

I think that Tom Wlaker turned slightly eveil because he lived a harsh and miserable life. But inside, he wasn't evil, he just did what he had to survive.

Cynthia, I disagree with you! Tom Walker was a human, and no human is perfect, we all make mistakes! Tom Walker was just trying to change his miserable state and unfortunantely, by doing so made a bg mistake! But he regretted it, and when someone feels remorse it shows that they still have feelings inside. Evil are the people that do bad things out of pleasure or spite and don't even care about thier consecuences!

I agree with all you when you say that Tom Walker lived a miserable life and found no way to make it better. But he made a pact with the DEVIL, I mean that is the worst thing you can do. He had other choices except that he didn't go out and look for them. He took what he was being offer, he took the easy way. Never in the book do they mention Tom trying to improve his life. I am sure that if he really wanted to improve his life he would've found another way.

Luis Losada said...

I disagree with Priscilla, Tom is guilty. He could find other ways to make his life better if he really wanted. He just took the easy way and had to regret it later.

Priscilla Gonzalez said...

Luis, we all make mistakes. But Tom Walker was desperate, miserable man searching for a way out. And when he finally got offer a deal (yes I know with the devil) but he didn't want to search anymore he was tired and later on regreted it.
Like we all do.

Cynthia said...

fernanda: i understand what your point, but he should've looked into another solution.

Cynthia said...

thanks for understanding my point cynthia, but i also think you need to understand that his encounter with the devil wasn't something he had planned or expected, for Tom Walker, this was like a one in a life time chance sent from God himself!

I dont think that Tom is really an evil person. He was deep down a normal man, living a miserable life, and desperately in need of getting out of it. Not because he did a bad thing does it mean he is a bad person, he just made a decision when he wasnt thinking clearly.
I disagree with Luis when he says that Tom never tried to improve himself, because through his actions its clearly shown that he regrets his decision and feels remorse about them, showing that he is not an evil person at all. He made a mistake since he found no other solution to his problems.

Fernanda Langa said...

I agree with you Sabrina, he wasn't thinking wisely and morally at the time when he took his decision, due to the horrible and miserable life he was leading.

Anonymous said...

Exactly Fernanda, like you said earlier it wasn´t the best decision, but only because in his desperate state he took it doesnt mean he is really that way. Deep inside he is not an evil person.

Bryan Martinez said...

Tom Walker wasn't an evil person, he simply chose what he thought would help improve his life situations. He had trouble with his wife and lived a miserable life. I do believe that he was a fool and made the dumbest decision of all; trust the DEVIL. What I mean is that he didn't do that pact out of evil, but to live a better life but still, it was a dumb way to search for happiness.

filippo said...

I think that tom walker is evil because there were many other ways he could have a better life instead of what he did.

Ana T. Garcia said...

Luis, I disagree with you. I know that making a deal with the devil wasn't the smartest choice but you have to put yourself in his shoes. He led a life of poevrty, hunger, suffering and usually when people are like that others reject them, and no matter how the tr to improve society marginates him. He was a desperate man that took the only way out that he could find and he was blinded by his misery but the important thing is that he regretted it later. This shows that he was clearly good.

Gabriel said...

I think that Tom Walker wasn't an evil person because he had live a very unhappy and miserable life; and wanted to get out; so I think he wasnt evil.

ivan portalatin said...

I think tom is not evil because is no he's fault that his life was so miserable. I disagree with filipo because I think that he tom is not evil he just wante to get out of that situation.

ivan portalatin said...

I disagree with my self because its true that he lived a misereable life but I think he is evil becuase only thinking he maid an arregment with the devil to give his soul is the worst think I can imagine and that makes him a evil man.

I believe that Tom Walker became evil throughout the story, he started out as an innocent man who was unhappy with his miserable life and later became the devil's servant practically, doing evil deeds without a second's hesitation

Bryan Martinez said...

Carlos, I totally disagree with you, I mean, if you understand how he was before making the deal with the devil, you know that after the deal, he pretty owe his happiness to the devil so he pretty much had to do what the devil asked him to do.

Mella217 said...

Bryan i first have to completely disagree with what you said in your first entry in that he might have been seeking happiness but in that quest he did become someone truly evil.

Also I think that you have completely missed the point of what I'm trying to say, although it is true that he did owe the devil a great deal and he did have to follow any and all instructions the devil gave him, that does not mean that these actions are what spiraled him into becoming evil, they just helped speed up the process

Bryan Martinez said...

Carlos, once again, I disagree, you admitted the fact that he was "unhappy with his miserable life", after you and I both stated that, I strongly believe that he did in fact accepted the deal with the devil to get out that life and live happily.

Luis Losada said...

Ana I strongly disagree with you when you say "That shows he is really good". Tom made a pact with the devil not a random guy but the devil. Even if he does regret at the end it shows that he lived a miserable life because he wanted to. He was so stupid to made a pact with the devil, he should know better. I bet you there were other ways he could've used to get out of his misery but he had to choose the stupidest and easiest one.

Tom Walker is not purely evil. He did not look for the devil, he just found him when he was walking. At the end he even went to church.

Armando said...

Manuel, I understand what you say; Tom Walker has evil in him. However, he is not PURELY evil. If he would have been purely evil, he would have looked for the devil even before he realized he had a miserable life.

What you say is MAYBE true, but it is not certain. The story never specifies the reason for the devil to appear before Tom Walker.

Vicente said...

I think Tom is purely evil because he should have looked for a way to get out of that miserable life, instead of making a treaty with the devil.

Vicente said...

I disagree with Ivan because Tom had to know better, no one should make treaty's with the devil.

Pedro said...

I disagree with you vicente, just because he made a treaty with the devil doesnt makes him evil he was just trying to get out of his miserable life, he just did it the wrong way.

Vicente said...

Pedro, in my way of thinking making a treaty with the devil makes you evil. You say that he just took the wrong decision, but do you think the evil will have any kind of mercy with him?

Pedro said...

well now that you put it that way I see it more clearly and I agree with youre opinion.
